Signature keynotes

What your audience walks away with

  • Outcome

    Redefine Impossible

His signature keynote. Through raw storytelling, behind-the-scenes footage, and a high-energy multimedia experience, James walks audiences through the 50.50.50 and Conquer 100 — not to impress them, but to show the mindset mechanics behind doing what looks impossible. The core idea: when you change your internal narrative, you don't just break limits, you redefine them.

  • Everyone's Hard Is Different

A perspective-and-empathy keynote built around a humbling lesson — that struggling on a 4-mile fun run with his wife taught him as much as any world record. Why comparison is a trap, why "just showing up" is underrated, and how leaders create cultures that meet people where their "hard" actually is.

  • Winning the Internal Battle — Resilience Under Pressure

The applied version of his story: how to manage self-doubt, reset under pressure, and keep moving when everything says quit. Drawn from 101 consecutive days of pushing through injury and exhaustion — translated into tools any team can use through change and uncertainty.

  • The Power of Consistency

How the "impossible" is really just a long series of small, repeatable actions. James unpacks the daily discipline, accountability, and habit systems behind his records (and his Commit365 philosophy) — a natural fit for sales floors, operators, and any audience trying to turn big goals into daily execution.

  • Build Your Crew — Team & Family as Your Support System

No impossible goal is achieved alone. James crewed both records with his wife Sunny and their five children. A keynote on building, leading, and leaning on the team around you — support systems, shared mission, and the human infrastructure behind extraordinary results.

The story

Who James actually is

James Lawrence — "The Iron Cowboy" — was born in Calgary, Alberta, and is based in Utah with his wife, Sunny, and their five children. He had no athletic background: a former wrestler who ran a mortgage company, he didn't enter his first triathlon until 2004, at age 28, with no experience swimming, running, or cycling. He earned the "Iron Cowboy" nickname by wearing a cowboy hat during the run leg so his young kids could pick him out of the crowd.

What followed was a steady escalation of the impossible. He set former Guinness World Records for the most half-Ironman-distance triathlons in a year (22) and the most full-Ironman-distance triathlons in a single year (30, in 2012, across 11 countries). Then, in the summer of 2015, he completed the feat that defined him: 50 full-distance Ironman triathlons — a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, and 26.2-mile run each — in 50 consecutive days, across all 50 U.S. states. More than 7,000 miles of racing in under two months, on about 4.5 hours of sleep a night, to raise money for childhood-obesity charity. It became the Netflix documentary Iron Cowboy: The Story of the 50.50.50.

In 2021, he raised the bar again. From March 1 to June 9, he completed 100 iron-distance triathlons in 100 consecutive days — plus one extra, for 101 in 101 days — the "Conquer 100," benefiting an anti-human-trafficking charity. Each day took 14–16 hours; he pushed through shin and hip injuries severe enough to black him out on the run. The record stood until 2023. That story became his second documentary, Conquer 100.

James is a 2× author — Iron Cowboy: Redefine Impossible (2017) and Iron Hope (2024) — and was named to Sports Illustrated's "Fittest 50." Today he speaks worldwide, runs the Commit365 mindset program and the Iron Cowboy community, and channels the same relentless consistency into ventures spanning multi-family real estate and Crumbl Cookie franchises. His throughline never changes: ordinary people, doing a lot of little things consistently, can redefine what's possible.
